Chevese Turner Founder and Chief Executive Officer
Recognizing the need for an organization to advocate on behalf of affected individuals and the providers who treat them, as a binge eating disordered individual herself, Chevese Turner founded BEDA in June 2008. A well-rounded career in the health care, pharmaceutical, political, and non-profit arenas performing a variety of leadership roles, including fundraising, marketing, and sales, has prepared Turner to launch BEDA.
Turner was most recently a senior oncology territory manager with Eisai Pharmaceuticals. Demonstrating a command of the health care policies critical to the oncology community, she consistently ranked in the top tiers of her division. In 2006, she won the prestigious “Eagle” award for top sales. Known for her interest in health care policy, Turner developed a consultative style her providers came to rely on.
While with the Association of Community Cancer Centers (ACCC), she learned the daily operations of a non-profit entity and gained an understanding of the intricacies of the cancer provider community. Turner worked closely with ACCC’s executive director and director of policy on reimbursement and payer issues. She applied her skills and knowledge to network among ACCC’s primary funders and build educational programs to benefit the organization’s membership.
In her role as a marketing manager with the Pharmaceutical Education & Research Institute (PERI), Turner created and marketed education programs for the pharmaceutical and biotech industries. Her strategic approach was instrumental in raising awareness for PERI as the “go to” for educational programs for pharmaceutical executives and researchers. The result was an increase in attendees and inquiries for specialized training.
Turner began her career as a sales representative for Novartis Pharmaceutical Company, where she honed her sales skills and knowledge of the health care industry. She spent her spare time working on several political campaigns in Virginia.
Turner attended Temple University in Philadelphia, during which time she was an appointed committeewoman to the city’s 21st ward. She also worked on several state congressional, mayoral, and gubernatorial campaigns as she completed her BA in political science.
Turner lives in Severna Park, MD, with her husband and two sons.
